san antonio nightlife If you're a night owl, then finding a city where the restaurants, bars and clubs stay open well past the stroke of midnight is a crucial component of having a good time. Lucky for you, San Antonio is a city that parties around the clock, featuring a large number of excellent haunts where you can get luscious tropical drinks or a full meal through the early hours of morning. Here is list of some of the most popular late-night wining and dining destinations.

Stone Werks Caffe and Bar is one of the city's most popular thirty-something venues, offering up live music on weekends and great food, beer and mixed drinks every night of the week. Housed in a 1920s building that used to be the Alamo Cement Company's office, there is a lovely patio surrounded by a fence hand-sculpted from cement by Mexican artist Dionicio Rodriguez. Featuring an excellent menu of sandwiches, salads, entrees and desserts, the meals are way above and beyond standard pub fare. With a casual, relaxed atmosphere, a nice little dance floor and great house music when the bands are not playing, this continues to be a popular singles spot for the somewhat older, more professional crowd.

Probably the most famous restaurant and bakery in all the city, Mi Tierra Cafe and Bakery, located in the bustling neighborhood of El Mercado or Market Square, has been catering to packed houses since 1951. Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the kitchen is always fixing up delicious Mexican specialties, such as chile relleno, baked cab-rito and exceptional empanadas, all served with hot-out-of-the-oven tortillas. And if you've got the late-night munchies the sweets are beyond compare, with mountains of hot melting caramelized pecans, praline, coconut and chocolate to lure you into happy submission. After the other bars and clubs close down for the evening, this place becomes the favorite after-hours pick, where the fully stocked bar, twinkling colorful lights and strolling Mariachis punctuate a fabulous night out.

Featuring two outdoor patios and a fully-stocked bar that mixes up killer frozen drinks, this is the perfect place for kicking back with friends and taking in the festive atmosphere. Some of the other house specialties include charbroiled chicken, Acapulco-style shrimp in butter-garlic sauce, steak tampiqueno and vegetable enchiladas.

For a one-stop trip to great dining, live music and people-watching, head on over to Sunset Station, located near the downtown Convention Center. Built on the remnants of the 1902 Southern Pacific Railroad, this National Historic Landmark is now a popular nightspot. Featuring a Texas-style dance hall and a 30,000-foot courtyard with retail kiosks, a karaoke bar and the Lone Star Pavilion for live music, there are also a number of great restaurants that stay open late into the night, including Aldaco's Mexican Restaurant, Willie's BBQ and Meat Market and Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. With four live music stages and five dance floors, this is a sure-fire recipe for an exciting adventure.
